Now that the new year has started, it is a good time to evaluate whether the ERP system in your organization still meets your requirements. What are your goals for 2019 and will your ERP system help you achieve these goals? Or is it just an inhibiting or limiting factor? Although requirements to ERP are unique for every company, there are a few important requirements that every organization will have. To what extent does the ERP system in your organization meet these requirements?
1. A future-proof, stable, proven successful ERP solution
You need stability in ERP. A solid software system provided by a strong partner with great expertise and a successful track record. After all, it is about the future of your company. Therefore, you should work with an ERP solution that has been built on a strong platform, used successfully by similar organizations for many years and which will be supported and continuously improved in the future. Thus, an ERP system with a bright future ahead.
2. A user-friendly ERP system, quick and easy to learn for every user
Usability is becoming increasingly important. You want an ERP system that is quick and easy to learn for every user. New and existing users, from management to the workshop, always and everywhere. A user-friendly system saves enormous costs for training and education and the users will be more productive and enjoy their work much better. Is the ERP system in your organization complex and unclear? Then start looking for an intuitive and modern ERP system, one that works for managers who are interested in KPIs and reports, but also for 'heavy users' looking for the story behind every detail.
3. An ERP solution that is based on modern, widely used technology
For most of your employees, the technology of your ERP solution may be boring, but it is of crucial importance. Now and in the future. When the technology of your ERP package is modern and widely used, this makes your business more effective. Is your ERP system connected with other business applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel? Are you able to exchange information easily and automatically with customers, suppliers, the bank or the accountant? Are new tools and solutions that increase productivity compatible with your ERP system?
4. An ERP package that has been developed specially for your industry
ERP systems are focused more and more on specific industries. There is simply no ERP system imaginable that works perfectly for every type of organization. So, it is important to find an ERP solution that has been developed specially for your type of organization. And more important; supported by a partner with industry knowledge. Do you work with a generic system or a system focused on a completely different industry? Then chances are that you miss opportunities. An ERP partner who knows your industry and understands your processes can offer you a system that supports all your processes.
Is 2019 a good year for you to search the market for a new ERP system? If so, make sure to NOT look too much at your current way of working or current ERP application; after all, you do not want a (poor) copy of what you have, but rather move forward. Focus on your goals as an organization. What are your ambitions for this year and which ERP partner can help you best?
