Traditionally, software companies are seen as suppliers. They develop products and deliver them to customers. But to what extent can and should an ERP specialist still be considered a supplier? Nowadays, the strategic importance of ERP software for any organization, small or large, is growing. After all, ERP supports your entire organization including financial management. It is therefore also increasingly important to build a strong partnership with your "supplier." But what makes the difference between a supplier and a partner?
One partner raises the bar
From an ERP partner, you should expect more than just automating the processes as they currently run in your organization. After all, you want to grow with ERP and thus raise the bar. An ERP partner immerses himself in your organization, shares ideas and thoughts with you and takes a critical look at your processes. Where is there room for improvement? Which processes can be faster and better? The ERP partner lifts your organization to a higher level by providing you with the right knowledge and resources. And that doesn't stop after going live; after that, your ERP partner works with you to look at possible optimizations and how innovative software solutions can contribute to the company's growth objectives.
Strategic business partner
An ERP partner is not an IT partner, but a strategic business partner. The software is only a tool, successful growth is the goal. Together, you strive toward this common goal. Therefore, involve the ERP partner in the company's strategic plans. Where do you want your company to be in 5 years? And in 10 years? Chances are that your plans will influence the requirements you set for the software. By sitting down with your ERP partner, you will be well prepared for this.
The power of partnership
Take for example the Red Bull F1 Racing Team and Renault in this still early Formula One season. The test weeks in Barcelona went somewhat disappointingly, leading to immediate talk of a lost season by the outside world. However, because of the strong partnership, they have been able to intensify the cooperation between the teams resulting in some big steps toward reconnecting with Mercedes and Ferrari. As a result, they have achieved some nice and handsome performances in recent races, with the provisional highlight being the miracle of China (3rd place for our own Max Verstappen, while starting from 16th place on the grid). They still have some steps to go, but they are working hard together to create a "winning team" and that is what partnership is all about.
