Software is an integral part of everyday life these days. Whether you are shopping online, apping with your family or friends or just enjoying an evening watching TV. There is a piece of software involved in everything. Software is developed to make our daily lives more enjoyable and evolves faster than we can blink. This, of course, also applies to ERP software; it is developed to support and grow your business. The ERP vendor is therefore increasingly becoming a business partner rather than a regular supplier. Your business is constantly changing and you need to be able to act quickly on market demands and your business partner needs to think along with you. We develop software that grows with your business. To achieve this, there is one very important condition: keep customization to a minimum. Because the law of the inhibiting lead applies to software with customization. Perhaps the solution for now, but in a month it will be three times outdated!
Lost in space
Last week I watched the new series "Lost in Space" on Netflix at night. In this series, an expedition is set up to a new Earthly planet to continue humanity's existence there. Then it occurred to me that a re-implementation or migration to a new version of a software package is similar in many ways. Anno 2018, developments follow each other at such a rapid pace, both in terms of technology and business, that a re-implementation or migration to a new version is a much bigger step than in the past. This requires a different approach and a different mindset.
Adapting to evolve
With our Earth, we can certainly continue for hundreds of years, despite climate change, increasing air and water pollution and the threat of wars. Perhaps there are other Earth-like planets in the universe that humanity can inhabit. This will require adaptability at first, as conditions and living conditions are different. Still, in the long run, it may be wise to undergo these adaptations. Instead of hundreds of years, you can evolve on the new planet for tens of thousands of years.
Are you ready to change?
Before entering the rocket, you must make the conscious decision to accept the change. This is also the case during the re-implementation or migration (Change & Acceptance phase). After a ride full of new experiences, the moment comes when you start the landing. Of course, the landing (Livegang) is always exciting and can be a bit bumpy. After all, it is not every day that you land on a new planet. Once you arrive, you will have to get used to the new conditions and circumstances. This takes some time, varying from person to person how long (Adaption phase). Then you want to colonize the new planet and develop it further (Evolution phase). This happens gradually and in certain periods (Timeboxes).
In theory, our mission is not much different. We want to help our customers grow and evolve their business. To do this, we do not use rockets or hi-tech space vehicles, but our software is the tool that is going to help them do that.
