3 Tips for Heavy Equipment Safety

There are over a million pieces of Heavy Equipment operated throughout North America every single day. Together we are responsible for the safety of each operator. The month of June is “National Safety Month”, this is a great opportunity to create more awareness on the safety of the equipment and the operators. Your equipment needs to be safe, people need to be trained, and work spaces need to be in constant communication. As a prominent business partner for material handling organizations all over the world, we strive to keep your equipment safe and help you control your business processes.

1. Make sure the services on your Equipment are up to date

Inspect your equipment daily, the proper maintenance and inspections play a big role in accident prevention. Without adequate maintenance and heavy equipment inspections, your machines pose a significant threat. Verify all your equipment, materials and protective devices are maintained and in good condition by using tools like mobile checklists and heavy equipment inspection forms. Mobile forms and checklist allow your employee to complete inspections on any mobile device, quickly and easily. For inspections of your machines, devices and installations you can use checklists which you can easily define and modify yourself and which can be attached to the equipment. By requiring employees to perform daily inspections, they will be able to identify any issues before they become a hazard or cause an incident. EveryWare Service is fully integrated with Dysel 's ERP solution Equipment Life Cycle. Data entered by your employee is transmitted directly to the central system and visible in the office. Your employees are assured that the data they check on-site, such as service history, machine configuration or customer information is up to date and correct. The power of complete integration and real- time data results in improved customer service, efficient inventory management, lower costs and most of all SAFE Equipment.

2. Invest in Training of your Resources

One of the most important ways to increase safety is by ensuring employees are well-trained on the equipment they operate. Each employee must be update their training regularly. Employers are responsible for protecting their workers from hazards that can be caused from operating heavy machinery on the jobsite. Please note training should also include the manufacturer's operating guidelines in addition to OSHA, MSHA, and/or BMWT’s standards and best practices. Ongoing training through refresher courses or when new equipment is purchased will also help reduce the risk of incidents on-site.

Does your software help you keep up to date on Each employee training dates and expiration dates? Dysel’s  software will keep you and your employees trained, this means you will always be update on each employees training.

3. Communicate with the People working around you

Always be in constant communication with the people working around you. Failure to communicate issues about the equipment can be fatal. Thirty-five percent of on-the-job injuries are caused by machine accidents each year, as well as 14 percent of work-related deaths. Your equipment is at the heart of our Service Software.
